Leadership author and speaker John Maxwell notes that “a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” This is certainly true for this month’s employee spotlight, Vanessa Fields of Harbin Lumber North Augusta, as her leadership and impact on others has truly made a positive difference throughout the company!
Vanessa’s career first began at Lowe’s where she held titles including Zone Manager, Commercial Sales Representative, and Credit Manager at 5 different stores across Kentucky and Tennessee. She then transitioned to Roofing Supply Group as the Operations Manager in charge of dispatch logistics & inventory for 10 years. After relocating to South Carolina, she began her time with Harbin Lumber in 2017 in Inside Sales. Her detailed experience in this industry has allowed her to create trusted relationships with our customers!
JP Adams, General Manager of HLC North Augusta, credits Vanessa for her exemplary work ethic. “Our customers really enjoy working with her. Alongside her Inside Sales role, Vanessa just became our location’s Safety Coordinator ensuring all employees can perform their job securely. She does a lot for our store and cares greatly.”
Though Vanessa has been in this industry for 20 years, she still enjoys what she does every day. “I love my job and working with people in the construction industry. I genuinely enjoy problem-solving, teaching, and mentoring other employees to improve work ethics. Also, making customers happy gives me immense satisfaction.”
Aside from her career passions, she enjoys spending time outdoors kayaking and fishing with her husband David – who is also a part of the Harbin Lumber family as an Outside Salesman. She also spends much of her time with her 3 kids Zach, Taylor and Lyndsey, and precious grandchild Ellie Jane. And we can’t forget about her 8-year-old Shorkie Poo companion, Sammy!
