Gregg Moore Sr.
Yard Manager & Inventory Controller
Lavonia Lumber Yard
We are pleased to announce our 2023 November STAR employee, Gregg Moore sr.
Gregg has been an integral part of the Harbin family for almost 17 years now and is the current Inventory manager at the Lavonia Lumber Yard. His strong work ethic with an “ALL IN” attitude is what makes him a true S.T.A.R employee. We are so proud to have him on our team and his story of what led him to Harbin.
Not originally from around this area, Gregg married a Georgia peach and moved to the big town of franklin county following the love of his life. Starting a new chapter in his story, he knew quickly he would need to find a job locally. Originally, he began working for a company known as, Gilbert and Bennet located in Toccoa, GA as a plant superintendent creating galvanized fencing for almost 10 years. When the plant shut down, Mike Miller (current Load Star production manager) referred him to begin working at Harbin and the rest is history!
Starting as a shipping manager at Load Star for over 3 years, he then moved into the general manager position of Reload center for an additional 3 years. In 2008 the recession had a traumatic toll on the working industry. Job positions quickly changed in a lot of companies, and Harbin was no exception. Employees worked and helped wherever they could to meet the needs during that time. Gregg worked with multiple positions during that time at Reload, cutting I joist or LVL’s with a chainsaw, helping with inventory and spotting as the shipping manager. As the recession continued unfortunately this location had to temporarily close, leading Gregg to work at Royston LLC for 3 years. As the economy began to rise again, he returned to Harbin after the recession as the shipping manager in Lavonia lumber yard for 6 months then moved to Inventory Manager where he has been ever since for 9 years.
As the Inventory manager his daily routine includes cycle count, pulling stock status and make sure inventory matches on the yard by going out to physically count the product. Sometimes that would require adjusting numbers to make sure everything matches the system appropriately. When numbers are off, it is his job to become detective and see where the product went and why it was not recorded properly. Maintaining those numbers are crucial for a smooth daily operation. In addition, he also schedule’s any truck and lift repairs that need to be done, while also handling time roles for all employees, wait on walk- in customers, and answer the phones if needed.
“ I like the people and the challenges. Harbin Lumber is very challenging. Every day is different.” – Gregg Moore
Challenges can vary daily between, truck repairs, inventory matching the system and yard, and chasing people down with time to get paid appropriately. “ I like being busy.” I am my own worst critic.” Coming from a military background growing up with his dad in the military he was raised to be tough and though in whatever he does, he will give 100%. This work ethic shows daily in Gregg. He always puts his best foot forward and makes sure that no job is left behind!
“Gregg has always been an integral part of this location. I rely on him for support in almost every area of operations. His attention to detail and work ethic is second to none. Gregg is one of the most dependable people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.” – Todd Irvin, General Manager of the Lavonia Lumber Yard
When asked; What is the most memorable moment from his time with Harbin?
Gregg answered without hesitation. He recalled a time when he was working inventory at Load Star a little over 10 years ago. He had the opportunity to work side by side with Barron Harbin (3rd generation owner). “He can move and has a drive. His tenacity is admirable.”- Gregg.
He finds himself easily able to relate to that same drive as Mr. Harbin with the determination to get a job done.
Gregg is married to Taska of 35 years now and together they have 2 kids, Gregg Jr (Employee at Lavonia Lumber Yard) and Ashley. He also has 4 grandkids that he adores! Although he does not have much free time at the moment due to his new house being built. Gregg and Taska enjoy camping with their family. Their favorite camping spots would be Myrtle beach or Tybee Island. Gregg and his wife both like to work if it is not an 8-5 job, they are working around their new home adding the final touches.
Gregg, it is a true privilege to have you on our Harbin Lumber team! You embrace all the S.T.A.R. qualities and your work ethic is admirable; this does not go unnoticed by your team! We look forward to your continued growth and success here, Congratulations!
